What a day 😄
I’ve finally got the help I need – the missing puzzle piece that my GP and I have been fighting for.
I was diagnosed with ADHD over a year ago by a well known private educational psychologist (specialist in ADHD), however she can only diagnose and not treat. So although I’ve been treated for bipolar the ADHD has not been addressed, therefore I’d come to a bit of a standstill in an overall treatment optimisation sense…
I couldn’t access ADHD treatment because the NHS specialist ADHD services weren’t available until this April so basically I’ve waiting over a year for an ADHD reassessment from a treating team. My referral was put on hold until services put in place.
So today, I finally saw this specialist treatment team for the reassessment. This time with a consultant psychiatrist. It was hard and I was a bit scared of the outcome in case he didn’t agree with the diagnosis… not that I necessarily wanted it but it would’ve left me very confused if they didn’t concur…
He confirmed that I do indeed have ADHD, primarily inattentive type. Phew.
I now have to have an ECG, bloods etc then if all well he’ll start me on a stimulant (and hopefully provide some other helpful treatment).
I’m so happy!!! Finally have a firm plan and two consultant Psychiatrists (one for ADHD and one for Bipolar) and a CPN. Never had so much help.
I feel lucky and have more hope for a settled and more fulfilling manageable life and successful career.
